AM & Music

I have the urge to share with you a fact that I have discovered in my musical life. I don't know that I can fully explain this fact to you; although me stumbling through writing this is my inadequate attempt to do just that. It seems as though there is one time in my day that I write music and/or re-establish my love for music.

First let me tell you, I wrote almost every song I have ever written after midnight. Maybe it's because the rest of the world around me seems to finally be at rest. Yes, Nick at Night is still showing four hours of Rosanne and ESPN is still supplying a never ending supply of highlights, but I find these things easy to ignore once I pick up the guitar and start to play. I don't know how other people do it, but that's how songwriting starts for me. Just playing something. And then there's the fact that my mind seems to clear. Everything seems attainable once the "day" comes to an end. My goals as a guitarist seem more realistic, my goals in life become more clear, even my love for my girlfriend seems to be strengthened by those strange hours when I naturally recognize "today" as tomorrow, yesterday, and today.

When my mind clears like this, songs seem to find me. They aren't necessarily good songs, but my thoughts don't write then at that point, my mind does. It's as if I allow my conscious, follow the rules, stay on task, cookie-cutter way of thinking to sleep while my mind - my creativity - is allowed to run free. Bliss.

Website

Hello All,
Finished updating the website tonight for the most part... There are still a few tweaks yet to finish up, but at some point I have to say enough is enough and lay down falling asleep to an air conditioner running with full knowledge of the temperature outside - Thanks ridiculous room...

Studio

So we are prepared to head into the studio and for now I think we know what songs we are aiming at putting on the record. I think the main thing for us was attempting to maintain some sort of consistency throughout the record as far as feel & sound and everything that goes into it. We are leaving off "Message in a Bottle" for now as it didn't seem to fit with everything else we were wanting to record. The record will basically end up being the story of a relationship; how a relationship is born and nurtured throughout its life until it painfully dies for whatever reason. Yeah, I'm sure you've heard a breakup record before, but I feel like this is a bigger scale than romantic relationships... Plus you haven't heard The Vintage Union's breakup record now have you?

Here we go...

Seems like things are starting to happen... And we are looking forward to the months that are to come... Specifically we are going to be playing all over the midwest and FINALLY record an album. Should be a fun ride.
